New Cityscape of Venice

I just framed the latest mosaic in my Italy series in a lovely Italian molding.  Called Venezia, I used smalti and vitreous glass for the buildings, along with stained glass for the canal.  Beads provide some of the detail.  The piece measures 12.5 x12.5″ including the frame.

Sheep Getting Ready for Christmas

I recently finished my first sheep mosaic.  Though most of the sheep I see are white, I decided the brown sheep were more interesting. This one is modeled on several I photographed in Essex, NY. I used mostly stained glass on the sheep with millefiore for the eyes, nostrils, and paisley centers, and beads for the paisley outlines

Boston Harbor Back by Popular Demand

Visitors to the site have expressed interest in my Boston Harbor mosaic, shown on the opening page of this website. I dropped off my photo in Lowell yesterday for the upcoming exhibit called Alienation.  I was told that the jurors only accepted 40 pieces for the show and only 8 from Massachusetts.  I am looking forward to the reception on September 10th at the Loading Dock Gallery.  The gallery is very nice.  It’s in one of the old mill buildings that have been refurbished into art studios.  Hope to see you at the show!

New Italy Mosaic a Venetian Classic View

Just finished #4 in the Italy series.  Entitled Resting Gondolas, Venice this is a mixed media mosaic using stained glass primarily for the sky, water, and gondolas.  The church in the background, called San Giorgio is depicted largely with smalti and beads.  The mosaic is 12″ x 16″ framed in a stained pine frame.

New England Mosaics Society Inaugural Exhibit Opens at Emerson Hospital

The first member exhibit of the recently formed New England Mosaics Society opened on Monday, May 15th at Emerson Hospital in Concord, Massachusetts.  The show Contemporary Mosaics – Modern Interpretation of an Ancient Art will run through July 15.  Twenty-five pieces representing various  mosaic styles and methods, and subjects are on display in the Main Lobby gallery of the hospital and may be viewed during hospital hours.
